The Kingston Research Technology Center (KRTC) is located in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, and is Novelis' central integrated research and technology laboratory. The facility was established in 1942 and focuses on aluminum research and development, innovation and materials and process technologies. In addition to world-class facilities for materials characterization, testing and modeling, the KRTC houses pilot facilities for the development of new and emerging technologies for Novelis' core rolled products business. KRTC currently employs close to 100 scientists, engineers and technologists working on a range of materials and processing technologies. It is also in partnership with other Novelis technology centers and provides direct support to the business units and to the Global Technology Leaders.
In addition to world-class facilities for materials characterization, testing and modeling, the R&T facilities house pilot lines for the development of new and emerging technologies for our core rolled products business. Major program activities include, enhanced surface properties development, alloy development, remelt and recycling, continuous casting, rolling process and modeling. NGTC also handles product and process development, as well as implementation across our consumer packaging, automotive, lithographic, architectural, industrial and light gauge businesses.
