As President and Chief Executive officer of Novelis Inc., Philip Martens is the principal executive officer of the $10 billion world leader in aluminum rolled products. Novelis operates 25 manufacturing plants in 9 countries, employing approximately 11,000 people in the manufacture of premium aluminum sheet and foil products. Novelis is the global leader of rolled products and operates through four main regions – Europe, Asia, North America and South America. Novelis is also the global leader in the recycling of aluminum beverage cans, annually processing 40 billion used cans.
Prior to joining Novelis in April 2009, Mr. Martens served as Senior Vice President of light vehicle systems for ArvinMeritor Inc. and President and CEO designate of Arvin Innovation. He was responsible for the overall strategic and operational management of the company's passenger vehicle components, modules and systems business. Prior to that, Mr. Martens served as President and COO of Plastech Engineered Products. From 1987 to 2005, he held various engineering and leadership positions at Ford Motor Company, most recently serving as group Vice President of product creation.
Mr. Martens holds a mechanical engineering degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Michigan. In 2003, Mr. Martens received a Doctorate in Automotive Engineering from Lawrence Technological University for his extensive contributions to the global automotive industry. Mr. Martens currently serves on the Board of Directors for Plexus Corporation, Graphic Packaging Holding Company and the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce. He is also a member of the Clinton Global Initiative. In addition, Mr. Martens is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Woodruff Arts Center in Atlanta and is the immediate past chairman of the Center’s global fundraising committee.
