Seoul Office Makes Real Connections with Local Families

Issues: Well-being, Community Development
Stakeholders: Employees, Communities
Region: Asia

It’s one thing to give money to those who need help – that’s a good thing in and of itself. It’s quite another to give money, volunteer time and establish a relationship with families who are in need of support. Yet that’s exactly what the Seoul office of Novelis Korea is doing through its Good Neighbor Program, launched in December 2006.

An employee’s recommendation for more active community involvement inspired a program in which the local government welfare office matched 15 families in need of support with 15 Seoul office teams. Teams not only raise funds for their families but they also get to know them on a more personal level. They visit the homes of their sponsored families on a regular basis and make a special effort to understand exactly what each family needs. Funds are raised through donations from Seoul employees and matching corporate funds.

With the Good Neighbor program in its beginning stages, the Seoul employees are dedicated to further expanding the program and making a real impact in the lives of families within their community.
