Performance

At Novelis, we are dedicated to supporting the success of our stakeholders through excellence in environmental management, health and safety. Through a combination of company-wide systems and programs, and a well-entrenched level of employee involvement, Novelis strives to improve its EHS performance every year, creating an ongoing process of improvement, where EHS awareness, knowledge, skills, capabilities and performance are constantly evolving.

Novelis has adopted a number of EHS metrics to measure performance against our targets. The following charts show our progress in three key performance areas and are based on the Hindalco Fiscal Calendar (April 1 - March 31). We are currently in FY 2009.

Recordable Injury / Illness

A recordable case is an occupational injury or illness that involves death, lost workdays, restricted workdays, or medical treatment beyond first aid.

Lost Time Injury / Illness

LTII is an occupational injury or illness where the employee could not work one or more scheduled work days.

Minor Environmental Incidents

A Minor Environmental Incident is a violation of legal requirements, minor in nature, which results in limited or no harm to people, wildlife and/or habitat.

A Major Environment Event results in harm or injury to any person, harm to wildlife, or significant and long-lasting damage to habitat. Novelis has never experienced a Major Environmental Event.
