President and Chief Operating Officer
As president and chief operating officer of Novelis Inc., Martha Brooks leads the $11 billion world leader in aluminum rolled products. Novelis operates 32 manufacturing plants in 11 countries, employing 12,700 people in the manufacture of premium aluminum sheet and foil products for automotive, transportation, packaging, construction, industrial and printing markets. Novelis is also a global leader in aluminum recycling. Since May 2007, Novelis has been a subsidiary of Hindalco Industries Limited, Asia's largest integrated producer of aluminum and a leading copper producer. Hindalco is the flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group, a multinational conglomerate based in Mumbai, India.
Ms. Brooks joined the aluminum rolling industry in 2002 as president of the Americas and Asia rolled products business of Alcan Inc., then took over global chief operating officer responsibilities as the business was spun off into an independent, publicly held company in 2005.
Prior to joining Alcan, Ms. Brooks was vice president at Cummins Inc., a world-leading designer, manufacturer, distributor and service provider of electric power generation systems, engines and related products. During 16 years with Cummins, she held a variety of positions in strategy, international business development, marketing and sales, engineering and general management, working in North America, Europe, the Former Soviet Union, the Middle East, China and South America.
Ms. Brooks is a director of the International Paper Company and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Manufacturer's Alliance. She is also a trustee of Keep America Beautiful, the Yale-China Association and the Hathaway Brown School, as well as a member of the Yale President’s Council on International Activities. She holds a B.A. in economics and political science and a Masters of Public and Private Management, specializing in international business, from Yale University.
